Welcome to SanBuenaventura SWE Section
The San Buenaventura Section was charted in 2002. The section is comprised of engineers and other technical disciplines from Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. It is part of SWE Region B. Regular monthly meetings give members an opportunity to network and continue their professional development. The section also participates in a number of outreach programs for girls in K-12 grades.
Upcoming Events
- May 8: Certificate of Merit Award Social
- When the weather gets warmer in May or June - if you would like to join us for an easy kayaking excursion in a local bay or estuary on a weekend afternoon, please let us know. We are working out the logistics and would like to locate it a convenient driving distance away.
- If you would like to practice your project management and leadership skills and expand your personal network of engineering professionals, we have several single events that could use your expertise. Each event is about 7 hours of planning, spanning about 6 weeks. Meeting events could be a topic you are passionate about, or we have event topics that just need a leader. Please contact Sherisse if this sounds interesting to you.

- November 29: Talk entitled, 'Where our water comes from'
Past SWE-SBV president Kristine McCaffrey is the Manager of Engineer at Calleguas Municipal Water District, helping to provide a reliable supply of water to much of Ventura County. With water being such a vital resource in arid Southern California, it is wise to know where our water comes from. Apparently engineers agree on its importance as we had a good turnout despite rainy weather. Kristine gave an energetic, interactive talk hitting highlights about the complexity of water supplies in Ventura and surrounding counties, the potential changes from quick events like earthquakes, or longer term trends like ground subsidence and groundwater salinization. We learned about efforts to increase use of local water via desalinization or reclamation, and the fact that well purified reclaimed water is much safer than people think it is. All that and we had a nice dinner of salad and lasagna. Thanks to CLU for providing the room and facilities.

- September 19, SWE Welcome Back Social
SWE-SBV kicked off our 2012-2013 season with a wine and chocolate event at Barrel 33 in Ventura. This year’s focus is on membership – engaging existing SWE members, adding new members, and reaching out to student members. This event contained a mix of all three, including collegiate officers from UCSB. After an introductory mixer, current officers promoted our upcoming events and talked about why we joined SWE and stay with SWE. We were able to sample from several wines, and raffled off Swiss chocolate. It was a relaxing and fun way to kick off the year.
